GeNUA: Specialist for IT Security
High-End Solutions for Secure Networking and Data Communication
GeNUA (Gesellschaft für Netzwerk- und Unix-Administration) was already working on IT security issues back in the early days of the Internet, with the advent of HTML and browser technology. The company was founded in 1992, initially as a specialist in developing security solutions for research establishments. With the rapid growth of the www, it started providing firewall systems to the business sector, and in 1997 the company launched its own GeNUGate firewall product range. GeNUA is now a leading specialist in IT security and systems management, with more than 170 employees at its corporate headquarters in Kirchheim near Munich and the offices in Cologne and Stuttgart. The GeNUGate solution is the only firewall system worldwide to be certified by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) to the Common Criteria (CC) level EAL 4+ and additionally classified as highly resistant. GeNUA's solutions and services are used by many globally operating corporations and security-conscious government organizations worldwide now, for the protection of their information technology.

The company has developed its own products to address networking and data communication security: the two-tier firewall GeNUGate, the firewall GeNUScreen, the multifunctional-applicable security platform GeNUBox, the GeNUCrypt VPN appliance, and the mobile security device GeNUCard for laptops. These solutions are designed to meet the most stringent security requirements and they are constantly upgraded in response to new security challenges. For the convenient administration of these security solutions, GeNUA offers the Central Management Station GenuCenter.
Milestone: Premium Certification of GeNUGate Firewall
A significant milestone in the company's development was the BSI certification of the GeNUGate firewall. GeNUGate is a two-tier firewall system comprising an application level gateway and a packet filter combined into one solution. Version 6.0 of the firewall is certified to the international standard Common Criteria EAL 4+ and additionally classified as highly resistant, as the central security feature self-protection complies with level EAL 6 requirements. GeNUGate is the only highly resistant firewall worldwide. This attests the high quality of the firewall and gives GeNUA a major advantage over its competitors.
Security Gateways for Red-Black Transitions
Special security gateways enable GeNUA to link variously classified networks of government and military organizations. These gateways are used for "red-black transitions" and monitor the flow of information rigorously, including document content. Furthermore GeNUA develops custom open source security solutions for specific clients.
Service: From Support to System Administration
GeNUA also provides clients with a comprehensive range of services, including ongoing support, training courses addressing the implemented solutions, and complete system administration for Unix-based networks. This service portfolio has enabled the company to generate revenues of 15.9 million euros in 2010. GeNUA customers include the MAN Group, MTU Aero Engines, telegate AG, the Würth Group, German Federal Parliament (Bundestag), Berlin-Bonn Information Network (IVBB), and many governmental and other organizations with security requirements.
