Kirchheim, October 19, 2009. The performance of the GeNUScreen 2.0 firewall has also convinced independent experts: the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) has certified the solution from firewall manufacturer GeNUA in conformance with the Common Criteria (CC) at the EAL 4+ level. This evaluation is based on a careful analysis of all the security functions, down to the source code level, and also a detailed series of tests. This is already the second BSI certificate for the GeNUScreen firewall – the 1.0 version had also successfully completed the rigorous testing procedure. This ongoing quality check is the user’s guarantee of a high-quality IT security solution in choosing GeNUScreen.
Managing Directors Dr. Magnus Harlander and Dr. Michaela Harlander accepted the certificate from BSI President-elect Michael Hange and from Bernd Kowalski, head of the certification department (from left to right).
Thanks to its bridging function, the GeNUScreen firewall can be applied flexibly: it can be integrated into an existing network without its own IP address, enabling data traffic to be controlled at particularly sensitive points. This means security zones can be created with a minimum of configuration outlay, in which especially sensitive systems such as SAP and production servers can be operated while shielded from the rest of the network. An additional feature of GeNUScreen is the VPN function. This establishes encrypted connections – Virtual Private Networks (VPN) – for secure data exchange on the Internet. GeNUScreen also supports IPv6: this means public authorities and companies can convert their networks to the Internet protocol with greatly expanded address space, without having to make complex changes to their security. GeNUScreen is administered by the GeNUCenter management station. This central administration system can also conveniently service large-scale installations with multiple firewalls.
The BSI certification to the international Common Criteria (CC) standard at level EAL +4 attests to the fact that all security functions have been correctly implemented and cannot be undermined, even by skilful hackers. EAL 4+ is the highest level that can be applied in full for a complex system such as a firewall. GeNUA began the complex certification procedure in May 2008, and successfully completed it with being awarded the certificate at the it-sa trade fair in Nuremberg. Managing Directors Dr. Magnus Harlander and Dr. Michaela Harlander accepted the certificate from BSI President-elect Michael Hange and from Bernd Kowalski, head of the certification department.
A large number of public authorities and corporations use certified firewalls from GeNUA to protect their IT systems. Major customers include the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) and the German Federal Statistics Office. GeNUScreen is available in seven different hardware variants to meet different performance requirements. The compact version of the GeNUScreen 100C is priced at 1,750 euros.
