Proxy Server
Program that deputizes for a client in establishing and breaking connections. Proxies are used in application gateways and circuit gateways. Connections are not simply let through after checking; this means that firewalls using solely own proxies for every service can be depended upon to protect the internal network against attacks on the IP level. Proxies are also used for other servers, e.g. on WWW servers.
