Ping of Death
Attack by an impermissibly long ICMP packet transmitted in parts (fragments). ICMP is the Internet Control Message Protocol, and is used for status messages and the "ping" program, for instance. The system attacked crashes in an attempt to put together and process the impermissible packet. The attack should meanwhile remain ineffective with all operating systems.
