The most important insurance against successful attacks. It’s vital to check occasionally whether the data can be restored when this happens. Proceed here exactly as you would in a real emergency: fetch the back-up media from the room outside your premises, and then resave the data. This is the only way to make sure that no source of error escapes you. Think: who has access to the data back-ups? The back-ups are a rewarding target for attackers. So it’s advisable to encrypt your back-ups, but you should take care to ensure that the associated password isn’t lost or forgotten!
