IP masquerading - sometimes also called PAT (Port and Address Translation), NPAT (Network and Port Address Translation) or 1-to-n-NAT - maps all addresses of a private network on one single public and dynamic IP address. This happens, because the addresses and also the port numbers will be exchanged. Thus, a whole private network only needs one registered public IP address. (q.v. NAT). Please note: As a consequence it is NOT possible to address the machines in the private network.
