Hardening, Kernel Hardening
Hardening characterizes the process, that makes a system safer against possible attacks. To achieve this you can remove unnecessary logins and services. You can also close open network ports and deactivate unused features in configuration files. Hardening can go even further if you completely remove unwanted features from the OS kernel due to security reasons (mainly in the network area).
